Washington, DC: 1.12.2010
Food Security, currently a favorable word in the parlance of the international development industry, is meant to convey the economic, health, agricultural and other factors that affect a peoples' safe and steady access to sustenance. Such is the stated goal of the ZAPAD project in the South Eastern African country of Zimbabwe: to bolster the productivity and competitiveness of small farmers, increasing their ability to supply food, earn a profit, and invest in producing even more and better crops.
CLUSA, the organization receiving funding from the USAID, and my employer, is in the early stages of implementing this project. My small role on a Tuesday? Bring the NGO's Certified Articles of Incorporation to the Embassy of Zimbabwe so that the organization can become legally registered with that country's government as it works with businesses and farmers in the countryside.
